All the pieces are mainly built out of vegetable-tanned leather allowing me to obtain an easier and more authentic result. The process for this kind of work is:
-conception of drawings and templates and cutting the pieces
-repoussé using bevellers
-hot water and black soap shaping for “boiled leather”
-alcohol or water based dyeing, and acrylic painting
-gluing and saddle stitch sewing by hand, with an awl, a roulette or striking claws
-edge weaving or strap sewing
-riveting parts together with brass, copper or aluminum rivets
-edge work with a torch, bee’s wax, gum and a burnisher
-patina and leather nourishing with wax, balm or neatsfoot oil.
