Simon Malier

My career path
I am a wood carver, carpenter and furniture maker in an archeological medieval construction site.
Son of a scientist and an artist, my education and followed courses have always been between those two worlds, separated and yet connected. I finally ended up choosing craftsmanship by working with many different materials.
At 14, I started my first craftsman steps during a 1 week internship alongside two sculptors and one mosaicist. Combined to my interest for medieval and fantasy worlds, those encounters helped me develop my identity, my choices.
I then started my very first own creations out of leather, wood and metal. Chainmails, leather armours, shields and plate steel armours sprouted troughout the family house. This endured until university where I learned about materials, their physical and chimical properties; alongside 10 hours of applied arts courses every week.
But being drawn to crafting and connecting with materials, I couldn't resist following studies in cabinet making, wood carving, gilding, and then in blacksmithing.
Since then, I combine passion and work conducting XIIIth cabinets, window frames and sculpture projects at Guedelon castle.
A big thank you to those with whom I crossed path that shared, and helped me grow a bit more...
